JBC Compact Stations: Everything you need to know about the range!

This guide will offer a comprehensive breakdown of JBC's Compact Soldering Stations Range. A video by an expert at JBC will explain the range for you.

What is the JBC Compact Line?

The JBC compact line has one of the smallest footprints in the market. JBC stations heat up in only 2-3 seconds. Once the operator takes the handpiece off the stand it heats from room temperature all the way to 350ºC in a matter of 3 seconds.

JBC Tip Technology

All of the soldering tips in the JBC range benefit from the same technology. It doesn't change if you're working with a really big fat chisel for a JBC Heavy Duty Station, or a really fine tip for a JBC Nanostation.

At the end of each tip, there's a thermocouple on the heating element which communicates with the microprocessor.

For example, imagine that you're working with SAC305 leadfree solder wire, and are soldering a heavy ground plane. The moment that the JBC tip touches something that demands a lot of heat the sensor will auto communicate and deliver more power by avoiding cold solder joints. The JBC soldering tip gets to the desired temperature in a fast and efficent manner which you can see in the graph below:

Benefits of JBC Tip Technology

JBC tips last longer than the competition. Normally 3 to 5 times longer for a number of reasons:

Firstly, you are able to work with lower temperatures thanks to the tip technology. The graph below shows how lower soldering temperatures extend the life of the soldering tip:

Secondly, JBC's innovative sleep and hibernation mode means that from the very moment you put the JBC handpiece back on the cradle of the station it cools to a certain temperature. You can see in the graph below that the JBC station will go into sleep mode and from 0 - 60 minutes (parameters defined by operator) the station will go into hibernation mode.

Putting this into context, hibernation mode means the moment you put back the handle in the cradle it goes to room temperature. What you're doing here is avoiding oxidation.  You can see what oxidation does to the tip in the image below:

With JBC technology, from the moment that you pick up the JBC handpiece and it heats up in only 2 seconds, you will not notice any type of lack of temperature between coming from the station to start soldering.

Thridly, cleaning is essential to perserving the life of the tip. You may be thinking where's the cleaner? The cleaner is hidden within the JBC station. There's a splashguard here and the brillo pad. Also, if you're used to working with a sponge, you can put the sponge inside of the station. There's other openings here where you can swap the tip, and that will extend even more the tip life.

Safety when Soldering

JBC stations take into consideration the safety of a technician. Taking off or changing hot soldering tips with your hands or pliers is dangerous and can lead to burns. JBC have an innovative and safe way to change tips. Within the JBC station there is an extractor which removes the tip. It's a completely safe, faster and more efficent way to change any type of tip. You can see how the cartridge extractor system works below:

All JBC stations have a four-digit password protector. One situation where this may be useful is if one of your technicians is cranking up the temperature, and you don't want them to be oxidizing the tip that fast. In this case you can set up a four-digit password that means they will not be able to change the temperature. Either you can work with one temperature, two temperatures, three temperatures, or leave it open, so you can work with a different range of temperatures.
